Crop, Fit, and Pad apply to both single and batch static uploads.
Drag & drop static emote images
PNG, JPEG — up to 5 files
YouTube's Loyalty Badges and custom Emojis only accept static PNG or JPEG images — animated GIFs are not supported and will be converted to a static frame. The recommended size range is 48×48 to 480×480 pixels (square), with a 1 MB file size limit. Our tool resizes your images to the optimal 48×48 dimension automatically.
YouTube Channel Emoji Requirements
YouTube membership emoji and loyalty badge dimensions
YouTube's emoji system is part of the Channel Memberships program. Creators with 1,000+ subscribers and memberships enabled can upload custom chat emojis. Unlike Twitch and Discord, YouTube's system is static-only — if animation is critical, consider creating an APNG or short YouTube Short instead. Loyalty Badges follow the same size and format requirements but automatically display next to a member's name based on their membership tenure (1 month, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years).
How to Upload Channel Emojis to YouTube
Complete guide to setting up Membership Emojis and Loyalty Badges on your YouTube channel.
Check Eligibility
YouTube Channel Memberships (and custom emojis) require your channel to have 1,000+ subscribers and be part of the YouTube Partner Program. You also need to be in a country where Channel Memberships are available. Go to YouTube Studio → Monetization to check your status.
Prepare Your Emoji
Design your emoji as a square image, ideally 48×48 pixels (YouTube's recommended size). Use PNG with a transparent background for the cleanest look in dark and light mode chat. Remember: YouTube does NOT support animated GIFs — any GIF uploaded will be converted to a static first frame.
Resize with Emote Resizer
Select the "YouTube" tab, drop your image, and we'll resize it to the recommended 48×48 dimensions in PNG format. YouTube accepts sizes from 48×48 to 480×480, but smaller sizes render more consistently across devices.
Upload in YouTube Studio
Go to YouTube Studio → Monetization → Memberships → Emojis. Click "Add emoji" and upload your PNG file (must be under 1 MB). Give it a shortcut name that members will type to use it — for example, :myheart: or :pogchamp:.
Set Up Loyalty Badges
While you're in the Memberships section, also set up Loyalty Badges — these are special icons that automatically appear next to a member's name based on their membership duration (1 month, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years). Same file requirements: square PNG or JPEG, under 1 MB.
💡 YouTube's emoji system is simpler but more restrictive than Twitch or Discord. The lack of animated GIF support means you should focus on creating iconic, instantly recognizable static designs. Consider creating matching Loyalty Badges that evolve in complexity as membership tenure increases — this encourages long-term subscriptions. Test your emoji in both light and dark YouTube chat modes to ensure visibility.
YouTube Channel Emoji Tips
Optimize for Both Light and Dark Chat
YouTube Live Chat has both light and dark modes, and your emoji needs to look good in both. Use PNG with transparent backgrounds and avoid very light or very dark colors that might blend into one mode. Adding a thin, semi-transparent border can help your emoji stand out in any context.
Create a Cohesive Emoji Set
The most successful YouTube channels create emoji sets with a consistent art style, color palette, and theme. This builds brand recognition and encourages members to use them. Plan your emojis as a collection — matching style, line weight, and color saturation across the entire set.
Design Progressive Loyalty Badges
YouTube's Loyalty Badge system (1 month, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years) is a unique opportunity for visual storytelling. Design badges that visually evolve — for example, a seed → sprout → flower → tree, or a bronze → silver → gold → diamond theme. This gives long-term members a sense of progression and pride.
No Animated GIF Workaround
Unlike Twitch and Discord, YouTube has no animated emoji support, and there's no workaround. Uploading a GIF will just use the first frame as a static image. Focus your creative energy on making impactful static designs instead. If animation is important for your brand, consider using animated Super Chat stickers (a separate feature with different requirements).
